TRENDING IN THE ADVISER ONLINE COMMUNITY

Share Your Story
Our Share Your Story campaign is well underway, and we’re asking advisers to tell the community about an especially impactful service project. Here are excerpts from two entries thus far:

“…the students found several opportunities to volunteer and make food/care packages for the people in Puerto Rico. We even shut down the school for one day and took the entire school to the Orlando Convention Center to volunteer with ‘Feeding Children Everywhere.’ I am most proud because after doing the research themselves, so many students volunteered that we HAD to shut down our school for a day. Not one student was forced into going, but every student was there with the right mission in their hearts.”

“[Our] project began with three girls who loved to read and saw that a majority of our town doesn’t. They wanted that to change. They saw the Tiny Libraries project on Facebook and are making it a mission to build these boxes across town. This will provide books for the entire community.”

Remember to “like” your favorites. The post with the most “likes” by January 31 will be awarded a special gift from the national office. To learn more about the campaign, log in to the community and Share Your Story here.

Honor Society Tips and Tools
As the first half of the school year comes to an end, it’s an excellent time to plan the remainder of the school year’s activities.

  • Selection and induction. These usually occur in the spring for many chapters. Are dates on the calendar? Do students know your selection procedures and criteria? Be sure your chapter’s selection procedures are published and available for parents and students. See Article IX of the National Constitution.
  • Supplies. Have you checked your inventory to identify your needs for spring? Place your orders before the busy spring season. (Use promo code HOL17 for 15 percent off everything ordered by December 31 from the NHS or NJHS Store.)
    Enter the NHS Store >>
    Enter the NJHS Store >>
  • Member obligations. Are you reviewing all current members to ensure they are fulfilling annual obligations (dues, service hours, etc.)?
  • Officer election and transition. Will you review the process for electing new chapter officers? Also consider how you provide new officers with transitional information and tools. Update your chapter bylaws as necessary.

Visit the Adviser Resource Center on the NHS or NJHS website for all your chapter management needs.
