Rise Up and Lead in Denver This June

Rise to new leadership heights with middle level and high school advisers and student leaders at the 2020 National Student Council Conference. This year’s theme—Rise Up and Lead—was inspired by the Mile High City and challenges both students and advisers to take initiative and make their student council more effective than ever. Start planning now to join us at Eaglecrest High School in Centennial, CO, right outside of Denver from June 22–24. Visit www.NatStuCoConference.org for more information and to register. Read more about the conference in the NatStuCo Update.

Celebrate Outstanding Achievements

It’s time to recognize your NJHS students for their achievements and help move them toward their postsecondary goals! The NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award honors those students who embody the pillars of NJHS—scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship—and rewards 500 exceptional students with a $500 college savings account. New this year, advisers will no longer nominate students; instead, students will create a student account and fill out an online application, which the adviser must certify for the applicant to be considered. Read more in the “Honor Society Update” on page 11, and visit www.njhs.us/oaa for more information.

Recognizing Excellence

Did your student council or student government organization make a significant impact in 2019? Have they completed outstanding service projects, engaged your student body, and championed student voice to create a positive environment within your school? If so, your group may be eligible for the 2020 National Council of Excellence Award! This program recognizes middle level and high school student councils that consistently provide quality leadership activities and service to their schools and communities. Review the criteria and apply today at www.NatStuCo.org/NCOE. The application deadline is February 18.
